SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois health officials say more than 200 cases of cyclosporiasis have been confirmed in the state.
Health officials say 96 of those who’ve contracted the bug have been out of the country—and eighteen of those who contracted the illness have been hospitalized due to the severity of their cases.
The parasitic illness has been spreading across the country, causing severe intestinal distress.
Over five-thousand cases of the infection have been reported nationwide, with the majority of those coming from Michigan.
The CDC and the FDA say they are investigating several outbreaks linked to fresh produce and bagged lettuce.
