PEORIA, Ill. – Two Peoria residents have been indicted on first degree murder charges in connection with the death and dismemberment of a man identified as David King.
A Peoria County grand jury indicted Portia Stokes, 26, and Michael R. Jansen, 29, on August 4, 2026. Both face identical charges of first degree murder, dismembering a human body and concealment of a homicidal death.
Court documents allege that on or around July 10, 2026, both Stokes and Jansen knowingly strangled and suffocated David King, knowing their actions created a strong probability of death or great bodily harm.
Between July 10 and July 11, both defendants are accused of dismembering, severing or mutilating King’s body.
Both are also charged with concealing King’s homicidal death, knowing he died by homicidal means.
Stokes and Jansen face a Class M felony for the murder charge, a Class X felony for dismemberment and a Class 3 felony for concealment.
Both defendants are in custody with detention orders remaining in effect. They are scheduled to appear for arraignment on August 13, 2026.
