MISSOURI (25 News) – A Peoria-area man has died after his small plane crashed in rural Missouri Tuesday evening.
The Harrison County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 73-year-old William M. Anderson, according to 25 News. Anderson was piloting a Piper PA-24 Comanche when it crashed in a field in Harrison County, north of Bethany.
Flight information indicated Anderson took off from Peoria around 4:39 p.m. Tuesday headed to an unknown destination. The plane went down around 6:53 p.m.
The sheriff’s office was alerted by the Federal Aviation Administration around 6:54 p.m. Deputies located smoke near U.S. 69 and 245th Street.
Anderson was presumed to be the sole occupant of the aircraft and was declared deceased at the scene.
FAA records show a Piper PA-24-250 is registered to a William Anderson with a Creve Coeur address at Anderson Law Offices.
FlightAware data showed a plane with the same tail number departing Peoria at 4:39 p.m. August 4, with the track stopping near U.S. 69 and Interstate 35 in Missouri.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
