PEORIA, Ill. – A violent night in Peoria has left two people dead and several others injured after a chaotic scene erupted early Saturday morning.
Around 2:45 a.m., police were near the 1400 block of Southwest Jefferson when they heard gunfire. Almost immediately, shots rang out near them, and a car took off from the area.
As officers tried to stop the car, a chain of events unfolded. While speeding off, that same vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian near Western and Howett before crashing into a utility pole.
Peoria Police say when officers reached the shooting scene, they found a man who had been shot. He was rushed to the hospital but didn’t survive. A third person also showed up at a hospital later with a gunshot wound to the leg; he’s expected to be okay.
The two men who were in the car that crashed were hospitalized with serious injuries, and PPD says they found a gun inside the vehicle.
Investigators are still piecing together what happened. If you have any information, Peoria Police want to hear from you. You can call the department or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
