Illinois receives $1 billion to expand high-speed internet across the state

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois is receiving more than one-billion-dollars in federal grant money to expand high-speed internet access statewide.  

Officials say the funding will connect approximately 350-thousand residents through homes, businesses and community institutions across the state by 2031. 

Illinois applied for the funds last September, bringing the state’s total broadband investment to more than two-billion-dollars. 

Governor JB Pritzker says, “From telehealth to online education to career opportunities, this announcement will open doors of opportunity for families, schools, farmers, students, and small businesses all over the state.”
