PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) -The 40th Greater Peoria Honor Flight is just around the corner on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The night before, veterans, their loved ones and guardians will gather for dinner at the Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino in East Peoria. And then on Tuesday, the veterans will arrive at the Greater Peoria International Airport before flying off and spending the day in Washington, D.C., visiting monuments and memorials. On this journey, there is an added feature.
“The exciting one that we have that has just been extended is the USAA Memorial, which has all of the names of those who served,” said Yvonne Rosenbohm, who is one of the organizers. “We’ve already reached out to our guardians and said, check out and see if your veteran’s name is there. If not, you can have it added. So, every veteran will be able to go up and see their name on that memorial, which is very special.”
The welcome home after a long and memorable day will be at Peoria airport Tuesday at 9:30 p.m.
