PEORIA, Ill. — Faulty electrical wiring is blamed for a house fire that displaced two Peoria residents Friday evening.
Firefighters were called to the 3000 block of Avalon Place just before 7:00 p.m., finding heavy smoke pouring from the roof of the one-story home.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the attic by cutting a hole in the roof, though the rest of the home sustained severe water and smoke damage.
Two residents managed to get out before firefighters arrived. There were no injuries.
The fire was under control in about 10 minutes, but crews spent another two hours checking for hot spots.
The home is currently uninhabitable. The residents have found temporary housing on their own.
Damage is estimated at $80,000.
