PEORIA COUNTY, Ill (25 News) – A man has been taken into custody in connection with a series of tragic events in Peoria County Friday morning that left a woman dead and an infant found deceased inside a burning vehicle, according to 25 News.
Jeremiah Duncan, 24, was taken into custody around 12:05 p.m. near Molleck and Oak Crest drives by Peoria Police and Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies, according to Sheriff Chris Watkins.
Deputies were initially called to the area of the 3500 block of Abby Circle for a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, they found a burning vehicle in the 3500 block of Yorkshire that was connected to a nearby home. Deputies went to the home to conduct a welfare check.
Inside the home, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Two other children found at the home were unharmed.
Investigators determined the vehicle had been driven from the area of the shooting before crashing. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, first responders found a deceased infant inside the vehicle. The infant was the child of the woman found shot at the home.
Authorities are investigating whether the vehicle fire was intentionally set. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
