PEORIA, Ill. – No one was injured after a mattress caught fire inside a Peoria home Sunday afternoon.
The Peoria Fire Department was called to a home in the 300 block of East Archer Avenue just before 5 p.m. for a report of smoke in the building.
Firefighters arrived to find a small mattress fire in a bedroom that had already been put out. Crews removed the mattress from the home to finish extinguishing it and used fans to clear smoke from the residence.
Everyone inside the home had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.
The fire was determined to be accidental. The home sustained smoke damage throughout, but no additional fire damage was reported.
Damage is estimated at about $1,000. The residents were not displaced.
