PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices continue to move lower in Peoria, although drivers are still paying significantly more than they were a year ago.
GasBuddy says the average price in Peoria fell 5.2 cents over the past week to $4.72 a gallon, based on its survey of 148 stations.
Despite the decline, prices remain 58 cents higher than a month ago and $1.44 higher than this time last year.
GasBuddy reported prices ranging from $4.43 to $4.99 a gallon across Peoria on Sunday.
Prices are falling faster elsewhere in Illinois. The statewide average dropped nearly 12 cents over the past week to $4.63 a gallon. Champaign’s average fell 23 cents to $4.43, while the Quad Cities dropped nearly 16 cents to $4.25.
The national average also fell sharply, dropping 12.5 cents over the past week to $4.30 a gallon. That’s still $1.22 higher than a year ago.
GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan says gasoline prices fell in 48 states over the past week and could continue declining in much of the country, although some Midwest markets could see prices move higher again.
