PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man accused of causing a motorcycle crash that killed a 59-year-old man has been indicted by a Peoria County grand jury.
Joshua J. Chiotti, 26, was indicted Monday on charges of reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
The charges stem from an April 5 crash involving motorcyclist Malcolm Luster.
Prosecutors allege Chiotti was driving recklessly when he entered an intersection against a red light and struck Luster’s motorcycle. The indictment alleges Chiotti then left the scene without providing information or assistance.
Luster later died from his injuries.
Chiotti was charged earlier this month after an investigation into the crash. He remains in custody, with a detention order in effect.
The charges are allegations, and Chiotti is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
