PEORIA, Ill. – A chimney fire caused minor damage to a North Peoria home Friday evening.
The Peoria Fire Department says crews responded to a reported structure fire at 6819 North Hunters Trace around 8:05 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming from the chimney of the residence.
Crews went onto the roof to investigate while other firefighters entered the home and extinguished the fire in the fireplace.
Once the flames were out, firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to check the attic and surrounding areas for elevated temperatures and smoke.
Crews also used a large ventilation fan to clear smoke from the home.
The fire was contained to the fireplace and chimney, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the residence.
Fire officials determined the cause was accidental.
Damage is estimated at $1,000, and the residents were able to remain in their home.
