PEORIA, Ill. – The city of Peoria is looking to put a friendlier face on code enforcement.
The city’s “100 Blocks in 100 Days” program is in its 4th year. The program has code enforcement officers meet with residents in the neighborhoods they cover to discuss concerns and share information on programs the city offers.
Neighborhood Enhancement Coordinator Kaylee Drea says one objective of the program is to show that code enforcement is more than just writing tickets.
“Sometimes it can be a negative interaction. But really, the role that it plays in our community is it keeps our neighborhood safe, it promotes health, and it keeps our neighborhoods feeling vibrant,” Drea said.
Drea says the interactions also help people get to know the code enforcement officers working in their neighborhoods.
She says there’s been a lot of positive feedback from residents who have met their officers through the program since its creation.
Drea says the neighborhoods picked are randomized, but they try to hit up different areas each year.
