PEORIA, Ill. – A man will spend an extra decade in prison for a fatal crash in central Peoria in 2020.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says Adrian Gregory was sentenced to ten years for the crash that killed his girlfriend, 34-year-old Aries Terrell, and injured the driver of the other vehicle involved. He was found guilty in March of Reckless Homicide and Aggravated Reckless Driving.
Prosecutors say Gregory was behind the wheel of a vehicle traveling more than 90 miles per hour on the morning of November 20th, 2020, when he crossed the center turn lane at Rochelle and Reservoir and crashed into the other vehicle.
The state’s attorney’s office says Terrell’s family spoke about her being a wonderful mother to her four children at the sentencing hearing Thursday, and that she treated everyone with love, respect, and kindness.
The driver of the other vehicle testified that she spent 18 months recovering from her injuries, and will never be 100%.
Prosecutors argued it would be an “insult” to allow Gregory to serve his sentence at the same time as the ten he’s already serving for an unrelated Aggravated Battery case.
The court ruled he will serve the sentences back-to-back.
