PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighters were called around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday to a home in the 1600 block of N. California for reports of a dryer fire.
The first crews arriving on the scene were led to the back of the home by a resident. They found the home’s laundry room fully engulfed, with flames spreading to the kitchen area.
“As soon as we found that out, we dispatched extra companies to also respond. We ended up laying lines from hydrants and pulling at least one additional line,” Fire Battalion Chief Nathaniel Rice said.
Rice said the fire was brought under control in a matter of minutes, but the home sustained extensive damage.
A female resident and several pets reportedly got out safely. Another resident was not at home at the time of the fire.
The Red Cross was called to assist with temporary housing.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation when firefighters cleared the scene.
