EAST PEORIA, Ill. — Veterans Day is right around the corner, and so is a longstanding tradition to honor those who served America.
East Peoria VFW Post 2078 has scheduled its annual Veterans Day parade for Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1:30 P.M., on Washington St.
The parade is scheduled to begin behind Goodwill, pass in front of Costco, and then end in front of the city hall building.
VFW Vice Commander George Hermann, Jr. said it’s Tazewell County’s oldest continuous veterans parade.
“I would say [we’ve been doing this] 80 years,” he said.
“In fact, I was even told by some of the guys down there this is maybe Illinois’s oldest Veterans Day parade.”
Hermann said veterans of all ages are welcome to participate.
“What happens is, it’s camaraderie. It’s unbelievable, getting together and meeting all the different units and just talking about different things.”
The parade is scheduled to feature patriotic vehicles and authentic equipment used by the veterans.
Following the parade, the VFW has scheduled a party from 3 until 5 P.M. open to the public featuring food and a DJ.
