PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County grand jury has indicted a man on another charge for allegedly injuring his infant son.
20-year-old Jaravion Nichols was indicted of aggravated battery on Tuesday, a Class X felony. Court documents allege that Nichols shook the child and gave him brain damage.
The charge is in connection to an incident in December where Peoria Police learned that a baby was dropped off at an emergency room in critical condition.
Police say the boy reportedly had severe head trauma and fractures throughout his body. Physicians assessed that the baby suffered multiple brain bleeds, bleeding within the eyes, brain swelling, and rib and leg fractures that were consistent with non-accidental trauma.
Nichols was released with GPS monitoring in January, and was previously indicted last month.
