PEORIA, Ill. — A Peoria County grand jury has indicted a woman charged in the fatal stabbing of another woman earlier this month.
The grand jury returned a single count of first-degree murder against Keonta J. Williams, 31, in connection with the June 2 death of Catherine Walker-Thomas, 36, according to court records.
Williams was arrested the day after the stabbing, which happened in the 700 block of North Hightower Street. Police responded to the area after a 911 hang-up call and reports of a disturbance. Officers found Walker-Thomas suffering from a stab wound. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.
According to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, witnesses reported hearing the two women arguing before Williams allegedly went inside an apartment, retrieved a knife and returned outside. One juvenile witness told investigators they saw Williams stab Walker-Thomas. Prosecutors also said officers recovered a kitchen knife near the scene.
Williams remains in custody as the case moves forward.
