BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (25 News) – A McLean County jury has returned a guilty verdict against a Georgia man in connection with the 2022 death of a Peoria teenager.
Tomiyale Anderson, 22, was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in the killing of Richwoods High School student Kany’e Stowers, who was shot at a house party in Bloomington four years ago, according to 25 News.
No motive was established during the weeklong trial, though prosecutors said that wasn’t required for a conviction. The central question for jurors was whether Anderson pulled the trigger.
The state pointed to two shots being fired as evidence of intent and used social media images from Snapchat to place Anderson in Bloomington the weekend of the shooting. Forensic evidence also linked shell casings recovered at the scene to Anderson’s weapon.
Anderson did not take the stand in his own defense. His sentencing is scheduled for October 27.
