PEORIA, Ill. – A new outdoor gathering space is now open in Peoria’s CampusTown area.
Big Picture Peoria and several community partners dedicated the CampusTown Parklet Thursday. The space is located near Main Street and University Street outside CxT Roasting Co. and is designed as a gathering place for Bradley University students and the surrounding community.
The project turned what had been parking spaces into an outdoor public space.
Big Picture Peoria President Mark Misselhorn described the project as an example of “creative placemaking,” using a small portion of an existing area to create a place for people to gather.
The project was supported by a Sprint Grant from Greater Peoria Leaders, along with contributions from CxT Roasting Co., CampusTown, Bradley University, the City of Peoria, The Joseph Companies and other community partners.
Bradley University President James Shadid said the parklet also provides another place for students to connect with the neighborhoods surrounding the university.
