EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The East Peoria City Council votes to consider litigation about concerning levels of a chemical in the city’s water.
City Attorney Scott Brunton says that apparently like some other communities, there are chemicals known as “P-FAS” in the drinking water supply in East Peoria, substances used in things like Teflon and Scotchguard, among others.
In order to get rid of the chemicals, Brunton says it will take time and a lot of money, so he wants the council to consider working with a law firm dealing with this problem elsewhere to pay for the water treatment work, and pay a contingency fee to the firm.

The City Council, with two members absent, voted unanimously in favor of the move Tuesday night.
It is unclear what the precise cost of the legal contigency fee will be.
