UPDATED 2:51 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County grand jury has filed a host of charges against a Peoria man listed in jail records as homeless, after a street racing incident last year that left three people injured.
The grand jury Tuesday charged now-18-year-old Jayshawn Ivy with three counts of Aggravated Street Racing, and three counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence.
Ivy, the grand jury alleges, was street racing in an SUV with another vehicle on October 4, 2021 near Jefferson and Bryan Streets when it was involved in a crash with a school bus.
The grand jury indictment alleges Ivy of having THC in his system as late as two hours after the crash.
At least four injuries were reported at the time, and the school bus had ten children on board.
Jail records indicate Ivy was arrested and then released on a different case last month.
No court dates in this case have been filed.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the alleged street racing — Maurice Young, 22, received a host of traffic tickets in the case, but is awaiting trial in a 2022 case involving an alleged home invasion. He’s currently not in custody.
