SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois State Police and local police are beefing up enforcement for the Halloween weekend.
Illinois Department of Transportation Spokesperson Paul Wappel says more than 1,000 people have died on the state’s roads so far this year, and I-DOT hopes this weekend doesn’t bring about any more traffic deaths.
“I-DOT and ISP have a campaign ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’, and ‘Drive High, Get a DUI.’ We want everyone to be safe Halloween weekend and through Halloween,” Wappel says.
There will also be local roadside safety checks through Monday, Oct. 31.
Wappel urges Halloween partygoers to plan how they are going to get home safely before going out.
“If you’re impaired, call a cab, use a ride-sharing service or mass transit. And, if you see someone you think is driving impaired, pull over and dial 9-1-1 to report it,” Wappel says.
