WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Two employees of a Philadelphia television station are dead after their station’s news helicopter crashed in New Jersey Tuesday night.
According to FOX News and the television station involved, WPVI-TV, the pilot and a photographer were returning from an assignment at the Jersey Shore when the copter crashed in a forest Washington Township, New Jersey, near Philadelphia, prior to 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
“Due to the remote location of the scene, and the limited visibility, it was determined at that point that the investigation would be suspended until sometime after daybreak. At this time, the scene is being secured,” said Chief George Fedorczyk, New Jersey State Park Police, Tuesday night.
WPVI-TV did not identify the victims pending notification of next of kin, but the station says the two “have a long history with our station and have been working as part of the Action News team for years.”
The cause of the crash has yet to be released. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating, according to FOX News.
The helicopter itself was reportedly leased to WPVI by another firm.
