PEORIA, Ill. – Arrests have been made in connection to two separate homicides in the same area from the past weekend in Peoria.
Peoria Police say 21-year-old Javier McGhee surrendered himself to police just after 12:15 P.M. Monday. He was identified as the suspect in the shooting death of 27-year-old Trashawn Morris.
The shooting occurred Saturday just after 10:15 P.M. on W. Fallen Oak Lane, in the area of the Lexington Hills Apartments.
The Peoria County Coroner’s Office says Morris suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and likely died moments after. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Peoria Police say 61-year-old Josef Viel was identified as the suspect in the stabbing death of 58-year-old Tonya Fuller. The incident also occurred on W. Fallen Oak Lane in the area of the Lexington Hills Apartments, just before 1:45 A.M. Sunday.
The coroner’s office says Fuller suffered multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma, and likely died during the stabbing.
Viel was taken into custody in the area of Virginia and Isabell Avenues without incident Sunday morning just after 11:15 A.M.
Both McGhee and Viel are charged with First Degree Murder, and both were taken to the Peoria County Jail.
