PEORIA, Ill. – The man charged in Peoria’s fourth homicide of the year has been indicted by a grand jury.
61-year-old Josef Viel was indicted on a First Degree Murder charge and a Murder charge Tuesday, both of which are Class M felonies.
Viel is accused in the stabbing death of 58-year-old Tonya Fuller in the early morning hours of March 24th in the area of the Lexington Hills Apartments.
Prosecutors allege that Fuller had more than 30 lacerations, bruises, and fractures to her jaw and teeth, along with defensive injuries.
It was the second of two homicides in the apartment complex, hours apart from each other. 21-year-old Javier McGhee is charged in the shooting death of 27-year-old Trashawn Morris in the late evening hours of March 23rd.
McGhee’s case has yet to appear before a grand jury.
Court documents list Viel’s next court appearance for Thursday for an arraignment hearing.
