NORMAL, Ill. – Assembly lines at Rivian Automotive’s plant in Normal are idled, in a planned three-week pause.
A Rivian spokesperson tells 25 News, the shutdown began Saturday, with production set to resume on April 28.
Rivian has said the past few months that production would stop, so that technological upgrades could be made to make its assembly lines more efficient.
Once production in Normal resumes, there will be two shifts of workers instead of three making the electric vehicles.
Rivian said last week that it’s on track to make 57,000 EVs this year, about the same number that the company made in 2023.
