SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The State of Illinois says there’s been a sharp drop in the number of new cases of COVID-19, and in the number of counties at elevated levels of spreading the virus.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says there were only 15,904 new confirmed cases in the last week, a drop of 7,889 from the last week.
55 of the state’s 102 counties are at elevated transmission levels, a drop of 33 from a week ago.
Peoria and Tazewell Counties, however, are still at a medium spread level, while Woodford County has dropped back to a low spread level.
State Public Health Director Doctor Sameer Vohra says he applauds Illinois citizens for “practicing important preventative measures,” according to a news release, to keep the virus from spreading, and that’s helping to protect hospital capacity.
