PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County grand jury has indicted a man accused of pointing a weapon at a Peoria Police officer.
The grand jury on Tuesday indicted Brian Childers, 45, on a Class Four felony charge of Aggravated Assault.
He is alleged to have pointed a gun at the officer during an attempted traffic stop on the morning of March 18th in South Peoria.
Childers was arrested in East Peoria later in the day, but released the next day in accordance with the state’s Pretrial Fairness Act, citing a lack of a criminal history.
The decision to release Childers at the time was blasted by Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria.
Childers was re-arrested on a Tazewell County warrant this past Friday on charges of Armed Violence and two counts of Possession of Methamphetamine.
He is scheduled to appear for an arraignment in Peoria County Circuit Court on May 2nd.
